The Terrace Times

Principal’s Message

Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,

And welcome to our latest Newsletter.

ICAS Testing
Anzac Terrace will again be offering students from Year 2 – 6 the opportunity to partake in ICAS Testing. International Competitions & Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is an independent, skills-based assessment program which recognises and rewards student achievement. Over one million student entries are accepted from over 6,300 schools in Australia and New Zealand annually. In addition, students from over 20 countries including Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and the USA participate in ICAS each year.
If you would like your child to participate in ICAS Testing at Anzac Terrace please check Connect for the entry form or ask at the School Office.  All forms must be received back at the School Office no later than 3:30pm Monday 19 March 2018.

P&C Meeting
It was great to see such a huge turnout to our first P&C Meeting and AGM. My thanks to all parents and staff who put up their hand to take up a position on the committee; especially Tamara Breen who has taken on the role of President for 2018.  I hope to see just as great a turnout of parents and staff for our next meeting on Thursday 22 March.

Easter Holiday
Just to remind you, the Easter Holidays will fall in the middle of Term One this year with Good Friday on 30 March. School is closed on Monday 2 April and Tuesday 3 April giving students a 5 day break. School will re-open on Wednesday 4 April.

Voluntary Contributions

Thank you to all families who have paid the Voluntary Contributions for 2018; it is greatly appreciated. All monies collected assist with the provision of student resources to enhance teaching.  At the end of Term One there will be a raffle held for all who have paid their contributions with the prize to be announce soon (it’s going to be big so watch this space).

Coles Sports For Schools

Don’t forget to get your vouchers in for the Coles Sports for Schools.  Our boxes are filling up with vouchers but we still need lots more. The more vouchers we collect the more sports equipment we can get for the school. We have a collection box at Coles Bassendean and one out the front of the library, so let’s keep filling them up. Tell your friends, neighbours and relatives about this great programme and have them save their vouchers for our school. Good luck and let’s keep collecting!

Onyas !!

Do you know of an Anzac Terrace staff member that deserves to be acknowledged for the work they do? Has this staff member gone above and beyond their role? Has this staff member impacted your life and / or others? Has this staff member helped to make Anzac Terrace such a great Primary School?
If so, why don’t you let them know?  I am pleased to inform you there is now a way to do this.  Anzac Terrace PS staff now have the Onyas!! (as in Good Onya – Well Done)  If you would like to acknowledge one (or more) staff member for doing such a great job or going that extra mile, come into the School Office and fill out an Onya !!  All staff will receive these recommendations from you plus go into the weekly draw to receive a “get out of duty free” card from me. So please, get nominating.

Have a great week,

Stuart Blackwood
Principal

Queen’s Baton Relay

Last Monday 26 February, our Head Students Jazmin and Kaleb, performed their first official duty. They attended the 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay at Governor Stirling High School with Miss McAlpine and Mrs McCulloch.

They witnessed Damian Martin, a Wildcats Player handover the baton to Ramon Anderson, an Olympian Canoeist.

Jazmin and Kaleb had some memorable photos taken with Ramon and the baton and then watched him taking the baton down the Swan River in a flotilla.

It was an amazing experience for them both!

Program Update

There will be some temporary changes to staffing at Anzac Terrace OSHClub beginning Wednesday 7 March.

I have been asked to work at another service as Coordinator  for the next four weeks while they look for a permanent team member.

During my absence Monique will be acting as Coordinator for Anzac Terrace OSHClub with Ashton D’Vaz assisting and when we have over 20 children Aaron Jakovich will be helping out. Both Ashton and Aaron have worked at Anzac Terrace previously so the majority of children know these educators.

Monique and Ashton will be working together daily and will ensure all routines and activities run as smoothly as possible.
As always we aim to provide the highest quality of care for your children to ensure they enjoy and benefit from their time at OSHClub.

If you have any questions or concerns Monique will be happy to discuss these with you or please contact Jacinta Lydiate, Regional Operations Manager via email: mailto:jacinta.lydiate@junioradventuresgroup.com.au

I look forward to seeing you all when I get back,

Jenny
