The Terrace Times

Principal’s Message

Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,

The penultimate newsletter for the year … Wow; where did that all go??

School Council
As mentioned in the last newsletter, it is my responsibility to call for nominations for School Council Members, Parent Representative.  Therefore, nominations are now open.  There are three Parent Representative positions available.  Please read the information and nomination form attached.  If you are interested in running for School Council, please complete the nomination form and return it to the school office before 3pm Wednesday 7 February 2018.  Should more than 3 parents nominate for these positions, I will hold an election on Thursday 8 February 2018.  Please read Adam’s School Council note later in this newsletter and if you have any additional questions regarding the School Council, please don’t hesitate to contact Adam or myself.

Duty of Care
As we move into the summer months, I feel it important to remind families that we cannot provide adequate duty of care to students arriving at Anzac Terrace before 8:00am.  Unfortunately there have been a number of students getting to school a lot earlier than 8:00am.  On Tuesday this week, I had to tell a student at 7:00am to wait in the office until staff arrived at school to be able to supervise that student.  This is not acceptable and very dangerous.  We understand with work commitments etcetera that sometimes it is unavoidable and students must be dropped at school early, this is why we have before school care available on-site through OSHClub.  If you drop your child before 8:00am, please utilise their services to ensure the safety of your child.

New Uniform (P&C)
As mentioned in the last newsletter, the P&C have generously offered to give all students a free faction shirt if you purchase two new school shirts on Monday 29 January (booklist day) … That’s $75.00 worth for just $50.00 !!!  This offer will only be available in the Uniform Shop (not online through Qkr). Just in case you can’t make it on Monday 29 January, the offer will be available until Friday 9 February; but you must go in to the Uniform Shop to take advantage of this offer.  Please note this offer will only be available once per student in your family.

Reporting to Parents
Just to remind all parents / caregivers, the end of the year Student Reports will not be printed.  The only way to access your child’s report on Monday 11 December will be through Connect.  If you have Connect set up, you will see that Semester 1, 2017 and Semester 2, 2016 reports are uploaded on your child’s Connect page already.  If you do not have Connect, or have not accessed it recently, now is the time to get set up.  If you need help, please come and see us in the office.

Have a great week,

Stuart Blackwood
Principal

Aussie of the Month

The Aussie of the Month award recognises personal endeavour, achievement and contribution to the community.

The awards also reflect some of the values we share as Australians, a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to community participation and a real concern for the environment.

Twice a Term, two students are chosen as the Aussies of the Month and the recipients are presented with the Aussie of the Month badge and certificate at a school assembly.

The certificate and badge is kept by recipients as a memento of the occasion.

Congratulations to Alyssa and Fletcher our Aussies of the Month for November. Well done!

Being a Reading Sensation

As most of our students read each night, the BEARS reading program is not extra work for students, parents and caregivers or teachers, it is simply a method of calculating the number of nights the students read, and then rewards them at strategic numbers, eg 50, 100, 200 and so on.

Well done to the following students who have read for –

Message from your School Council

Email: ATPS_council@outlook.com

Hello Parents and Friends,

Our Annual Open Meeting will be held in the Library next Monday 4 December at 3:00pm.  We hope that you can join us.  We are always happy to hear from parents and it is a good opportunity for you to see your School Council at work.

In the last Newsletter, we called for nominees to fill three seats that are being vacated in the School Council.  I would encourage those that have ever thought about being part of their School Council or those who are yet to consider it to put your names forward as soon as possible.

If you would like the Council to discuss anything at the next meeting, please remember we are reachable via our email address ATPS_Council@outlook.com or by contacting any of the Council members or Mr Blackwood of course.

Regards,

Adam Cheetham
