THE TERRACE TIMES

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,

Welcome to this edition of the Terrace Times and the last for Semester One.

End of Semester Reports
The end of semester reports are available to families today.  Student reports are only available via Connect.  All reports from 2016 onwards will be stored on your child’s Connect page.   Your Connect page will also carry over as your child moves into High School.
If you are unsure how to access Connect or your child’s report, come and see us in the School Office and we would be very happy to assist.

Onyas !!
We have been able to move the ONYA nominations to a digital platform.  By following this link https://anzacterrace.wa.edu.au/parent-information/school-council/onya-awards/ you will be able to nominate a staff member for an ONYA Award.  So if you would like to acknowledge one (or more) staff member for doing such a great job or going that extra mile, follow this link and let them know.

Winter Carnival
Congratulations to all students that took part in the winter carnival last week. You should all be very proud of yourself. Not only did you compete very well, bringing home a number of trophies, but you also represented our school with great pride. Every staff member involved with both training and the carnival has commented on your sportsmanship and attitude in which you carried yourself.

Staffing Changes
This is to inform you of some staffing changes for Term 3 2018.  Mr Neil Strachan will be on Long Service Leave all of Term 3  – Miss Amanda McAlpine will be the Acting Deputy in this time.  Changes to accommodate the above are listed below:
Room 17 – Mrs F Jones will be teaching Room 17 Monday and Tuesday.  Mr Valincius will still be in the classroom Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
Room 13 – Miss McAlpine will be teaching Room 13 Monday and Tuesday.  Mrs Tanya Druzianich will be teaching the class Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.

We will also be losing two of our wonderful support staff for both Term 3 and 4.  Mrs Deb Clarke and Ms Heather Knight will both be taking Long Service Leave for the remainder of 2018.  We wish them both well as they enjoy well-deserved breaks, and look forward to their return at the beginning of 2019.

Our gardener Vince Linardi will also be taking Long Service Leave all of Term 3 and we wish him an enjoyable break too!

Cross Country
Good luck to all students partaking in the Cross Country today … give it your best shot and make sure you walk off that course knowing you’ve given it your all.

School Development Day
Don’t forget, tomorrow (Friday 29 June) is a School Development Day.  Students do not attend on this day.  That means that today (Thursday 28 June) is the last day of Term 2 for students.

Have a safe school holiday period,

Stuart Blackwood
Principal

AUSSIE OF THE MONTH

The Aussie of the Month award recognises personal endeavour, achievement and contribution to the community.

The awards also reflect some of the values we share as Australians, a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to community participation and a real concern for the environment.

Twice a Term, two students are chosen as the Aussies of the Month and the recipients are presented with the Aussie of the Month badge and certificate at a school assembly.

The certificate and badge is kept by recipients as a memento of the occasion.

Congratulations to Jet and Connor our Aussies of the Month for June. Well done!

Winter Carnival

On Friday 22 June, the Year 5/6 students attended the Winter Carnival held at Altone Park and Hampton Park PS. The students played against Upper Swan PS, Hampton Park PS and Hillcrest PS in Netball, ALF, Soccer and Lacrosse. Everyone trained hard all term and put in a fantastic effort on the day. The team spirit amongst our teams was fantastic to see. Congratulations to everyone for playing so well and in particular to the Soccer ‘B’ team and the Lacrosse ‘B’ team who won their divisions.

Bounce Excursion – Room 14

On the 25th of June, Room 14 went to Bounce in Cannington. We won the Term 1 COGS Cup and we got to go as our reward. At Bounce; we went on obstacle courses, had fun hitting each other with dodgeballs, doing tricks and backflips on the trampolines and playing basketball. We also learned some new tricks such as “wall walking” from the staff at Bounce. Thank you to Mr Blackwood and the school for helping us have our excursion!

Being a Reading Sensation

As most of our students read each night, the BEARS reading program is not extra work for students, parents and caregivers or teachers, it is simply a method of calculating the number of nights the students read, and then rewards them at strategic numbers, eg 50, 100, 200 and so on.

Well done to the following students who have read for –
