The Terrace Times

Principal’s Message

Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,

Welcome to this fortnight’s edition of the Terrace Times.

Edu-Dance
I have had the pleasure of watching a number of classes learn their dance for our Edu-Dance concert later this term.  The performance is going to be quite spectacular.  Edu-Dance is part of our curriculum and the classes and expenditure are fully endorsed by the School Council.
Thank you to all parents that have already paid for Edu-Dance.  If you have not already paid, could you please speak with your class teacher and make payment before the end of next week.  Unfortunately any students that have not paid their fees by this time will have to be removed from the performance and will not partake in the concert.

School Drop off and pick up times
There has been some confusion recently with times for dropping students at school and pick up times.  I have instructed all teachers to open their classroom doors at 8:20am.  This allows the students 10 minutes to get organised and be ready to start the day at 8:30am.
Students are asked not to arrive at school before 8:00am.  We cannot provide adequate supervision to students arriving before this time.  If your child must be dropped before 8:00am, we have OSHClub onsite who can provide the suitable supervision and care for your child.  Similarly, allowing your child to play in the playground un-supervised after school is not acceptable and very dangerous.   OSHClub have the facilities and expert staff to care for your child if they cannot be picked up at 2:45pm.

P&C
Congratulations to Marieke van den Berg (President) Tamara Breen (Vice President) and all parents who took on roles at the P&C AGM last Tuesday.  It was great to see so many people at the meeting (quite a number of new faces too).  The P&C have always been great contributors to our school and we appreciate their ongoing support.  A huge thank you to Keren Ketterer who has stood down from the Secretary position after 7 years but still remains on the committee. What a fantastic contributor to our school!

P&C Movie Night
Don’t forget that this Friday is the P&C Movie night.  Bring your beanbags and enjoy a great movie on the big screen.  Tickets ($10) will only be available at the door on the night. Doors open at 5:30pm and the movie kicks off at 6pm sharp … See you there!!

Head Students
This week all eight Prefects interviewed for the position of Head Student.  Head Student is a new student leadership role introduced this year at our school.  During the interview, all students faced a panel of Mrs Page, Ms McAlpine and myself (a daunting task itself) and were given three questions to answer.  All eight Prefects did a fantastic job during the interview and should be very proud of their effort and ability.  It was very obvious during interview that our greater student body had chosen extremely worthy Prefects for 2017.  This unfortunately made our task of choosing just two students very tough.  But I am pleased to announce that Delilah and Cosette are our first Head Students at Anzac Terrace.  Congratulations … we know they will do the job with great gusto and aplomb.

Have a great week,

Stuart Blackwood
Principal

Students receive Honour Certificates as acknowledgement for achievement in academic success, social skills and thoughtfulness to others.

The Aussie of the Month award recognises personal endeavour, achievement and contribution to the community.

The awards also reflect some of the values we share as Australians, a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to community participation and a real concern for the environment.

Twice a Term, two students are chosen as the Aussies of the Month and the recipients are presented with the Aussie of the Month badge and certificate at a school assembly.

The certificate and badge is kept by recipients as a memento of the occasion.

Congratulations to Amelie and Emma – our first Aussies of the Month for 2017. Well done girls!
