The Terrace Times
Principal’s Message
Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,
Welcome to this edition of the Terrace Times.
External Review
As mentioned in previous newsletters, the school has recently gone through an external review. This has been quite taxing on staff with a load of extra work and extra meetings required from them to complete the process. All staff have been able to do this without affecting their normal duties. I am very proud of all staff for their professionalism and commitment throughout this very challenging time. All staff deserve a pat on the back for their efforts and attitude as we move forward.
Open Night
It was great to see so many parents and extended families at our Open Night last week. Every classroom looked sensational and the students took great pride in presenting their classes to parents and family. As I walked around the school it was great to see the glint in student’s eyes as they celebrated their academic achievement (small or large) with their families. Congratulations to all for such a wonderful night.
Interschool Carnival
As you would be aware, the Interschool Carnival organised for today has been cancelled. The predicted weather was threatening strong winds and heavy rain therefore putting the students / teachers / supporters at risk. As you would appreciate, the safety of the children is our priority. This decision has been made by the organising school and has not been made lightly. It had to be called early to give all schools the opportunity to cancel buses, ambulance, sound equipment and toilets etc. I am currently in negotiations with all competing schools to find a day/date that we can reschedule (fingers crossed). I will keep you informed.
Kindy T-Shirt Design Winner
Congratulations to Luka M whose design (below) was chosen to be the image used on the new 2018 Kindy Shirt. This was not an easy process. There was over 150 designs submitted and it was clearly evident, we have some budding artists at our school.
Start of Term 4
Just a reminder, there is no School Development Day to start Term 4. This means students start school at 8:30am on Monday 9 October. I am looking forward to seeing all your smiling faces then !!
Have a great holiday,
Stuart Blackwood
Principal

Creative Students in Room 13
Being a Reading Sensation
As most of our students read each night, the BEARS reading program is not extra work for students, parents and caregivers or teachers, it is simply a method of calculating the number of nights the students read, and then rewards them at strategic numbers, eg 50, 100, 200 and so on.
Well done to the following students who have read for –

Message from your School Council
Email: ATPS_council@outlook.com
Hello Parents and Friends,
As the term winds down, the council would again like to thank the amazing staff at Anzac Terrace for their dedication and hard work to ensure the best possible environment for our children to attend. Our children’s lights shine all the brighter, thanks to the time and care that is put into their education.
You may be aware, the Council nominated Mr Tristan Kaempf for the Premier’s Primary Teacher Award at this year’s WA Education Awards. Mr Kaempf was chosen for his excellence and dedication to our school. Sadly, due to the number and competitiveness of the nominees this year, Mr Kaempf was not named as a finalist. While we are sad at this outcome, we are grateful for his work and dedication to our children and we know he is grateful and humbled by his nomination.
The process for nominating Staff for these awards is complex and rigorous, requiring multiple layers of evidence proving various selection criteria to allow nomination. Given the enormity of the process, the Council’s Education Awards sub-committee, with the short notice the Department gave us to nominate, had to choose just one of our excellent staff. Given more time and more helpers, we would have liked to nominate Mr Kaempf along with many other deserving staff members and perhaps even our great school. If we start the process much earlier next year and are able to secure help from the wider ATPS community we will be able to do just that in 2018.
If you would like to help us, or for any reason you would like to contact the Council, please remember our email address is ATPS_Council@outlook.com
Kind regards,
Adam Cheetham
School Council Chair

BRING HOME A BIG BROTHER OR SISTER AND BRING FRENCH, ITALIAN OR SPANISH CULTURE TO LIFE!
Why not volunteer to host an international student from France, Italy or Spain next year? We have a small group of delightful students coming to Australia for 11 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture, experience our High schools, sports, environment and lifestyle. All these international students are around 15 or 16 years old, speak excellent English, have their own spending money, cover all school expenses, and we arrange all aspects of their program. They are looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short term cultural immersion stay. It’s fun and interesting to help these young people achieve their Australian dream. If you would like to know more, please email your interest to ICM on info@icm-education.com.au or call Georgie or Anja on 1800 500 501, or visit our website www.icm-education.com.
