The Terrace Times

Principal’s Message

Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,

Welcome to this fortnight’s edition of the Terrace Times.

2018
We are hard at work planning our class structures and teacher placements for 2018.  Please let us know as soon as possible if you are not going to attend Anzac Terrace PS in 2018, this will help with our planning and ensure we place students suitably.

Classroom Placements for 2018
If there are any special circumstances relating to your child’s learning that you would like us to consider for their placement in 2018, please put it in writing addressed to me by 3pm, Friday 24 November.  Please only base requests on educational requirements. Whilst all parent requests submitted by this date will be given serious consideration, they will unfortunately not all be automatically accommodated. Please note, late written requests will not be accepted.

Interschool Carnival
We have been working hard trying to reschedule a date for all competing schools to take part in the Interschool Athletics Carnival; unfortunately the 2017 carnival will not go ahead.  This is really disappointing for the staff but especially for the students (from all schools) who had earned the right to represent their school.  We have necessitated that planning for 2018 will include contingency plans for inclement weather so that this situation does not occur again.

Year 6 Camp
Well done to all involved with this year’s Year 6 Camp.  As per usual, the students represented our school with great pride and respect.  It was wonderful to hear every camp employee (and other school’s teachers) say how wonderful our students were.  A huge thank you to Amanda McAlpine, Christine Thomson, Clinton Bell and Emma who gave of their time freely to ensure the camp was a great success.

Fun Run
Don’t forget to get your fundraising started for our Fun Run that is taking place on Friday of week 5 (10th November).  Have a look online, the prizes that can be won/earned are sensational.  This year’s Fun Run is going to be a Colour Run, which should be an exciting twist.  More details for the Colour Run will follow in the coming weeks.

Maths 2018
Over the last couple of years we have been using the Origo Stepping Stones Maths program with mixed results.  Whilst the program was comprehensive, it missed the mark in a number or Numeracy areas (particularly in junior primary).  Through a lot of research and trials of different Maths programs this year, the Maths team at Anzac Terrace have endorsed the Oxford Mathematics program for 2018.  Oxford Maths is not only more comprehensive than Stepping Stones program in terms of content, but it is also more flexible to allow for great extension and remediation for all students.  Best of all, the price for parents/caregivers is comparative.  All staff are keen to put this program into action in 2018.

Have great week,

Stuart Blackwood
Principal

Anzac Terrace Primary School Talent Show

All our talented participants.

Congratulations to Shaela who won the overall competition and Ty who won the Principals Award.

Being a Reading Sensation

As most of our students read each night, the BEARS reading program is not extra work for students, parents and caregivers or teachers, it is simply a method of calculating the number of nights the students read, and then rewards them at strategic numbers, eg 50, 100, 200 and so on.

Well done to the following students who have read for –

100 Nights
Room 6Sierra C and Mikita R
Room 11Lovely B
150 Nights
Room 5Noah K, Alex P and Jake T
Room 6Alyssa G and Jaxon P
Room 11Tyson J
200 Nights
Room 6Tide D
250 Nights
Room 5Finn O
Room 6Liam B

Are you Red, Red, Ready?

The school is participating in a Day for Daniel, in order to help keep kids safe.

The children are encouraged to wear a red t-shirt in honour of Daniel Morcombe.  If possible please bring a gold coin donation in order to help the Daniel Morcombe Foundation keep our kids safe.

This is taking place on Friday 27 October.

The teachers have activities to help support and understand the reason for red shirt day.

If you have any queries please direct them to Ms Crosswell.

Thank you.

Chess Club Reminder

Due to a compulsory professional learning seminar, I will be unable to run Chess Club next Monday 23 October.

Therefore Chess Club next week is cancelled.

Chess Club will continue the following week on Monday 30 October.

Program Update

Welcome back to school for Term Four!

We hope everyone had a safe and refreshing school holidays. It’s been great to see so many new faces at OSHClub and to welcome everyone else back.

We’ve launched straight into the new term by getting our creativity flowing with some painting including rocks, finger painting, flick painting and much more!

Healthy eating and living is one of our passions so we decided to have a week of healthy recipes and activities – the children love cooking activities!

If you have any other ideas for activities to help promote happy, healthy lifestyles in our children and community please let us know.

Thanks for reading and we look forward to finishing the year off with an amazing final term!
