The Terrace Times

Principal’s Message

Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,

Welcome to our new look newsletter and the first published on our new website.

New Website
My thanks to Alex at ‘Jumping Jigsaws Designs’ who has worked with us to build the new website which will in-turn help us improve our communications with parents.  The website is in its inaugurating stages but looks great and is so much more user friendly.  If you have received this newsletter via email, check us out at www.anzacterrace.wa.edu.au

2017 Classroom Requests
We have just begun looking at the classroom structures for 2017.  Parents/Caregivers that may have educational requests for their children in 2017 are invited to write to me now outlining their reasons for the request.  Please have the requests to me before close of school on 25th November.  Unfortunately any requests received after this time will not be able to be undertaken.

2017
If you know you are not going to be at Anzac Terrace in 2017, could you please notify the lovely ladies in the front office?  This will help us with our classroom structure planning.

Year 6 Camp
Good luck to all students (and staff ) leaving for Year 6 Camp next Monday.  I am sure you will have a fun-filled educational experience that you will remember for the rest of your lives.

Student Road Safety
Over the last couple of weeks we have unfortunately had a number of incidents reported to us of students walking/running in front of cars on Anzac Terrace and surrounding streets and also in the school car parks.  All term we have been focussing on student safety, but for some students the message of road safety is apparently not getting through.  Please discuss with your child the serious nature of road safety.

Day For Daniel
Thank you to all students and staff that wore red last week to observe Day For Daniel commemorations. We started the day with some special guests from the Kiara Police Station who gave us great advice on how to feel safer when out in public.  Students across the school then did some activities in class on personal safety.  During the day we were also able to raise over $300 which will be donated to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

Adidas Fun Run
Thanks to all students who raised money taking part in the Adidas Fun Run last Friday.  A fun time was had by all who took part in the event.  Whilst we don’t have the final figure as yet, the monies raised will help us to continue to build our mobile technology program in 2017.

Healthy Breakfast
A huge thanks to Amanda McAlpine (coordinator) and all the wonderful staff that helped to make our annual healthy breakfast a great success last Wednesday.   There was a great community atmosphere in the school hall and everyone walked away with a full belly and a smile on their face.

Have a great week,

Stuart Blackwood
Principal

Thank You to the P & C

A HUGE THANK YOU to the P&C for their contribution to the new stools in the Art Room. Wow! What a difference they make!!

As most of our students read each night, the BEARS reading program is not extra work for students, parents and caregivers or teachers, it is simply a method of calculating the number of nights the students read, and then rewards them at strategic numbers, eg 50, 100, 200 and so on.

Well done to the following students who have read for –

Salvation Army Food Drive 2016

We have had an amazing response in previous years and hope your generosity will continue. Please send any non-perishable food items (ie packets and cans) to your child’s classroom. They will be collected weekly with year, room and school totals displayed in the Library and each classroom.

We will be starting the collection in Week 4 , that will give us 6 weeks to collect this Term, so let’s all put in a fantastic effort. Please support this very worthwhile cause. The food is put into hampers to brighten the Christmas of families in need.

Thank you

Jan Bowers – Co-Ordinator

Message from your School Council

Email: ATPS_council@outlook.com

Hello Parents and Friends.

This is an early warning about the date of our annual open ATPS School Council meeting on the 8 December at 3pm.  One of the areas for improvement that was identified through our survey this year was that we needed to be more visible and engaging within our school community.  The opportunity to have an open meeting is our chance to hear from you and for you to be updated about the work of the Council over the year.  So if you can come along that would be fantastic.  Tea and coffee will be provided.

The offer to hear from you is not limited to our open meeting.  All parents and community members are reminded that the Council has set up an email address at ATPS_council@outlook.com and we would love to hear from you.

Kind regards

Adam Cheetham

ATPS Council Chair

Bassendean Caledonian Junior Soccer Club 2017 Registration

bassendean-caledonian-soccer-clubBassendean Caledonian Soccer Football Club is founded in 1913 and is now part of the Football West Sunday League. The club is located at Jubilee Reserve in Bassendean.

The junior teams play against teams of the same age group in the Sunday league every Sunday morning from April to September. There is regular training every week prior to the Sunday games. This is an excellent opportunity for kids to participate in structured team sports and for parents to engage in the community grassroots activities.

The 2017 season registration will start in early February. To secure a spot for your children in the junior teams, please contact club’s registrar Sam Preston on 0403 171 654 by 4 December. The club offers flexible payment options.

If you have any questions, please contact Lindsay Royan on 0414 509 995. Lindsay serves on the Anzac Terrace Primary P&C Committee and will be club’s Under 9’s coach for the 2017 season.
