The Terrace Times
Principal’s Message
Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,
Welcome to this edition of the Terrace Times
NAPLAN
Congratulations to all students who took part in NAPLAN testing last week. NAPLAN can be a very anxious time, but all students who participated overcame their nerves and gave their best efforts. All Year 3 and 5 students deserve a HUGE pat on the back. My thanks to all classes that were inconvenienced by the testing regime and happily moved class or timetable to assist. Next year Anzac Terrace will be one of 300 schools using the online NAPLAN program. Trials of this program will occur at our school later this year.
In-Term Swimming
In-Term Swimming for Years 3 – 6 starts next week. If you haven’t already, it is imperative all swimming notes are returned to your child’s class teacher with the money. In-Term Swimming is a part of the Department of Education’s curriculum and as such is a highly recommended activity for all students (Pre-Primary to Year 6) to participate in. Pre-Primary to Year 2 swimming lessons will be in weeks 5/6 of Term 3.
Qkr !
Did you know you can now order school uniforms or pay voluntary contributions through Qkr ! without even coming to the school ?
Qkr ! (pronounced Quicker) is an app designed by the Commonwealth Bank to assist parents with easy payments of School Excursions, Uniforms, Voluntary Contributions, and other special school events. Want to know more? Come along to a parent info session and I will happily show you how to load the app and use the online facilities. (Check out the School Council article later in this newsletter for more information.)
End of Semester Reports
The end of semester reports will be going home to families on Friday 30 June. This semester all families will have two forms of access to the report, the printed version and via Connect. In semester two, Anzac Terrace PS will no longer be printing reports. Student reports will only be available via Connect. This will mean all students’ reports from 2016 onwards will be stored on your child’s Connect page. Again, come along to a parent information session to learn more about Connect.
School Development Day
Don’t forget Friday 2 June is a School Development Day. Students do not attend on this day. This day was chosen by the School Council as it leads into the WA Day long weekend.
Have a great week,
Stuart Blackwood
Principal
Aussie of the Month
The Aussie of the Month award recognises personal endeavour, achievement and contribution to the community.
The awards also reflect some of the values we share as Australians, a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to community participation and a real concern for the environment.
Twice a Term, two students are chosen as the Aussies of the Month and the recipients are presented with the Aussie of the Month badge and certificate at a school assembly.
The certificate and badge is kept by recipients as a memento of the occasion.
Congratulations to Cherise and Lachlan our Aussies of the Month for May. Well done!
Cherise, Year 3 Room 11

Being a Reading Sensation
As most of our students read each night, the BEARS reading program is not extra work for students, parents and caregivers or teachers, it is simply a method of calculating the number of nights the students read, and then rewards them at strategic numbers, eg 50, 100, 200 and so on.
Well done to the following students who have read for –

Message from your School Council
Email: ATPS_council@outlook.com
Dear Parents and Friends,
On Monday 8 May we held our first parent info session for Connect. Unfortunately the parent turnout was much lower than we would have liked. Some feedback we have received was that the time chosen was inaccessible for many parents. With the announcement today that all student reports will only be available via Connect later this year, the School Council believe it will help parents with the transition to Connect. Therefore our next Parent Information Session will be on Friday 26 May at 9am (straight after assembly) in the School Library.
The session will focus on :-
1. Logging into Connect
2. Navigating around the parent view of Connect
3. The ConnectNow App
4. Communicating with your child’s class teacher using Connect.
5. Qkr ! App – How to load the app and utilise this service
Tea and Coffee will be provided. Put this event in your calendar and we will hope to see you there.
As always, if you have any feedback or want anything discussed in upcoming Council meetings please contact us through one of our members or at ATPS_Council@outlook.com.
Kind regards
Adam Cheetham
School Council Chair
