Principal’s Post 19 February 2021

Hello Parents/Caregivers,

Welcome to the first edition of ‘From The Principal’s Desk’ for 2021. That definitely wasn’t the start to the year that we were all hoping for … but we made it !! And a special welcome to our new families joining our school this year; you are now officially members of the Anzac Terrace family.

P & C

Congratulations and a big thank you to all parents elected on to the P&C last night. A special thank you to Ms Jess Ericson for taking the role of President again this year. This year promises to be an exciting one with the introduction of a Canteen and possible employment of a Canteen Manager. I know the kids are looking forward to it   Check out the upcoming events for the P&C later in this newsletter.

Picnic in the Playground

I am looking forward to seeing all your smiling faces this afternoon as we open up classes and welcome you all to a new school year. As I said at the start of this newsletter, this has been a crazy start to the year with a COVID lockdown, wearing of masks, and then straight into swimming lessons, but hopefully tonight we can start to get back to some sort of normality. Classrooms open at 3:30pm and close at 4:30pm. You will have the opportunity to come along and see your child’s classroom, meet the teacher and maybe even wander in to our new Performing Arts class.

Don’t forget the P&C will be selling sausage sizzles, pizza, drinks and have an info desk for new families (and old families needing an update too)  there will also be an ice-cream truck from 5pm onwards. It is at the playground at the front of the school (Anzac Terrace end). Hopefully I see you there.

Bus Bay on Anzac Terrace

I had a visit from the Ranger from the Town of Bassendean last week. The purpose of his visit was to point out to me the dangerous situation occurring when parents are parking in the bus bay on Anzac Terrace both before and after school. Students crossing the road are unsighted with oncoming traffic. This situation has been reported by our neighbours on numerous occasions.

As you would have now noticed, the Town of Bassendean have re-painted the bus bay in bright yellow paint and it clearly states Bus Parking Only. I was also advised by the Ranger they will be out the front taking photos of any cars parked in this bus bay before and after school. His words … they can expect a ticket in the mail.

Don’t forget, we now have a permanent Kiss’n’Ride in the carpark off Culworth Avenue that is supervised by staff from 8:10am to 8:30am. This is a safe place to drop the kids off at school. If you don’t want to Kiss’n’Ride, there are plenty of parking bays available in this area.

Third Party

Last week a large document was sent home to you outlining the Third Party computer programs and iPad apps we use in the classroom at Anzac Terrace Primary School. It is a requirement of all schools to outline to parents/caregivers where student information is kept; this is Federal legislation. All of these forms are now due back, if you have not returned them to your child’s class teacher, could you do so as soon as possible. Unfortunately, your child cannot access computers or iPads in the school without this form being returned to us.
