The Terrace Times

Principal’s Message

Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,

Welcome to this edition of the Terrace Times

Qkr !
Did you know you can now order school uniforms through Qkr ! without even coming to the school?  You can choose which hat you want, buy a new bag, even get a new pair of pants … all without leaving the comfort of home.  You don’t have to wait for the day the uniform shop is open.  Once received, your order will be organized and sent home with your child.  How easy is that ???
Qkr ! (pronounced Quicker) is an app designed by the Commonwealth Bank to assist parents with easy payments of School Excursions, Uniforms, Voluntary Contributions, and other special school events.  Want to know more?  Come along to a parent info session and I will happily show you how to load the app and use the online facilities.  (Check out the School Council article later in this newsletter for more information.)

Up on Qkr right now you can find :-

School Uniform Shop
Voluntary Contributions / Donations
Room 11 (COGS Cup) Excursion
Winter Carnival
Friday Pie-Day

End of Semester Reports
The end of semester reports will be going home to families on Friday 30 June.  This semester all families will have two means of access to the report; the printed version and via Connect.  In semester two, Anzac Terrace PS will no longer be printing reports.  Student reports will only be available via Connect.  This will mean all students’ reports from Semester 2, 2016 onwards will be stored on your child’s Connect page.  Again, come along to a parent information session to learn more about Connect.

Two Big Fridays
Next Friday and the following are Two Big Fridays on our calendar.  Friday 9 June is Footy Colours Day.  Students can wear their Footy Colours (any kind of footy) to school with a gold coin donation for the Prefects Fundraising.  (no promises, but we are also hoping to have a special guest that day too).  Then the following Friday (16 June) is Pie Day … That’s right, Friday is Pie Day (Sausage Roll Day didn’t sound as good).  Students can pre-order pies or sausage rolls through the Qkr app or via order forms, with all profits going toward the Year 6 Camp. Check out the advertisements later in this newsletter.

School Development Day
Don’t forget tomorrow (Friday 2 June) is a School Development Day.  Students do not attend on this day.  This day was chosen by the School Council as it leads into the WA Day long weekend.

Have a great (safe) long weekend,

Stuart Blackwood
Principal

Being a Reading Sensation

As most of our students read each night, the BEARS reading program is not extra work for students, parents and caregivers or teachers, it is simply a method of calculating the number of nights the students read, and then rewards them at strategic numbers, eg 50, 100, 200 and so on.

Well done to the following students who have read for –

Chess News

Anzac Terrace has recently been involved in three separate tournaments;

1) Mt Lawley PS 2) Weld Square PS and 3) Midvale PS

On Thursday 17 May twelve Anzac Terrace chess club members competed in the Chess Kids Interschool Tournament at Mt Lawley Primary School.

Anzac Terrace finished with a silver medal with 16.5 points. Andrea was listed as our top player.

Well done to everyone involved.

On Wednesday 24 May, divisions A, B, C and D from Anzac Terrace Chess Club competed in a ‘friendly’ tournament against Weld Square Primary School.

It was an enjoyable afternoon (except for my van breaking down) and Anzac Terrace won most of the games. Well done everyone!

Finally, Division A competed in their next round in the School Chess League against Midvale Primary School and won all their games.

Some fantastic results!

Thank you to all the parents that have helped out with the driving over the last couple of weeks. It has been much appreciated.

Message from your School Council

Email: ATPS_council@outlook.com

Hello Parents and Friends,

We had a great turn out at our Parent Connect and Qkr! information session following the assembly last Friday.  We had 27 parents attend and the feedback was great.  Parents came to learn more about getting the most out of Connect including using the App for communication and viewing reports.  In addition parents were able to see the ease of using the Qkr! app to pay for Voluntary Contributions, Uniforms, Incursions and Excursions as well as the convenience of providing consent, all in the one place.

If you missed the session, we would encourage you to come along to the next one which will be held on Tuesday June 20 at 3:00pm (straight after school) in the library. We hope to see another good turnout.

Don’t forget about our School Council email account ATPS_Council@outlook.com if you have any feedback or issues you would like discussed at the upcoming council meetings.

Many thanks,

Adam Cheetham

School Council Chair

Netball News

With the netball season in full swing, our girls have had a very busy couple of weeks. All the girls have really put in a great effort and showed fantastic teamwork!! By utilising the skills learned at training and by competing, their confidence and plays have dramatically improved. The Year 5 team had their first win last week (after only 3 games!), and the Year 3 defence was so good that the opposing team could only win by a very small margin. Well done to all the girls, we are very proud of your progress, both individually and as a team!!!
