The Terrace Times

Principal’s Message

Good afternoon Parents / Caregivers,

Welcome to this fortnight’s edition of the Terrace Times.

Harmony Day

On the last day of this term, we will be celebrating Harmony Day.  We will ask students to either wear orange or traditional dress from their home country.  We are wanting to show all of our school community how diverse Anzac Terrace really is.

We are looking for volunteers (Mums/Dads/Grand Parents/ Uncles/Aunts) who would be willing to also dress in their traditional dress (or National Costume) and be interviewed by myself in front of all of our students.  If you are willing to do this, could you please come and see me at school or contact me by phone or email.

Summer Carnival

Good luck to all students competing in the Interschool Summer Carnival tomorrow at Altone Park Recreation Centre.  I know you will compete with pride, school spirit and sportsmanship. Represent our school well !! My thanks to all teachers that have given of their time to help train the students to be ready for this carnival.  If you are available, please make sure you come along and support our mighty Anzac Terrace teams as they battle against surrounding schools.

Leadership Day

This Friday all Year 6 students will be taking part in Leadership Day Activities at Challenge Stadium in Mount Claremont.  The students will take part in a number of different ropes courses designed to teach our budding trailblazers how to be a leader of teams and a team of leaders.  Students will work together enhancing communication and cooperation, build trust, respect and support, basic leadership principles and importantly just having fun.

Voluntary Contributions

If you have not already done so, would you please consider paying your voluntary contributions?  This year (more than any) we need your support to ensure we can continue to run the great programs at our school.  Last year we received just 58% of possible contributions.  At $50 per student, we are below the maximum we could ask ($60 per student).  If everyone was to pay this year it would equate to $18000 that we can put toward our education programs. Currently we have received $7600 and we thank the parents who have already paid their contribution.

ANZAC Day

This year we will be commemorating ANZAC Day on Friday 29 April at 8:30am.  This will take the place of our normal Friday assembly.  Don’t forget Term 2 starts for students on Wednesday 26 April.

Have a great week, (Go Dogs !!)

Stuart Blackwood
Principal

Students receive Honour Certificates as acknowledgement for achievement in academic success, social skills and thoughtfulness to others.

The Aussie of the Month award recognises personal endeavour, achievement and contribution to the community.

The awards also reflect some of the values we share as Australians, a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to community participation and a real concern for the environment.

Twice a Term, two students are chosen as the Aussies of the Month and the recipients are presented with the Aussie of the Month badge and certificate at a school assembly.

The certificate and badge is kept by recipients as a memento of the occasion.

Congratulations to Lily and Angelo, our Aussies of the Month for March. Well done!

Lily, Year 2, Room 6

Angelo, Year 4, Room 18

ATPS Council

Good afternoon parents and friends,

Last week was the first School Council meeting of the year.  As is the case every year, office bearing positions of School Council Chair and Secretary were vacated and new elections were held for those positions.  I was re-elected as Council Chair and Steph Tarbin as Secretary.  I think I can speak for Steph and myself in saying that we are grateful for the opportunity to serve the council and the wider community again in this way in 2017.

We have also had some new representatives join the School Council for the first time this year.  We welcome Rachael Bernsousa who successfully nominated to be on the board and Prakash Shakya has stepped into the P&C representative role this year.  We also welcome Sue Harrison our school’s brilliant Manager of Corporate Services onto the team.  I would like to thank them along with the existing members of our council (Mr Blackwood, Miss McAlpine, Mrs McCulloch, Mrs Page, Mrs Thompson, Sally Pitcher, Sasha Bridger, Nan Zhang and Steph Tarbin) for their service in advance.

For any new parents, this section of the newsletter is to keep everyone informed about key School Council business.  If you wish to provide feedback to your council or want us to discuss anything in particular, please raise this with any of the members present or email us at ATPS_Council@outlook.com.

Kind regards,

Adam Cheetham

ATPS Council Chair
